The ship's foghorn sounded so sad and lonely as it drifted through the deep thick river mist. The wet moisture dripped off of the young trees in the small park by the river, dropping to the concrete like endless tears. The young woman shivered in the damp night air and pulled her parka tighter around her. It was a dank night but she felt something inside of her come alive in the enveloping fog.
Most people would have told her to be afraid to walk that riverfront at such a late hour of the night but the large, muscular black dog that paced by her side quelled any fear she had. Nothing would get to her without having to go through Amigo first. He was her dog, her friend, and her family. Most of the time where she went, he went.
Amigo did not question why his mistress chose such a lousy time of night to take a walk on the river. He could hear the sounds of the old city behind them, that city that never slept completely. He only knew that she wanted a walk and he wanted to be with her.
Amigo also had no idea of where his mistress' thoughts were either. Her face looked sad but he sensed that her mood was calm and almost happy. If she was happy, he was happy.
The young woman let her thoughts drift like the lonely foghorn but they were not lonely thoughts. They were filled with bright beauty and happiness.
"Well, Amigo, Chase will coming home tomorrow. I should be sleeping since I have to pick him up at the airport early in the morning but as you already know, old fellow, I just can't sleep. I am so excited to see him again! This time he will stay and in one month, we will finally get married. Then, my fine canine fellow, we will be a family of three instead of two. Won't that be great?" the woman said to the dog.
Her voice was light and joyous as her heart knew the truth that finally love had come home to stay. No more questions, no more hesitation, no more confusion, no more nothing negative! Chase had finished his duty calls and he was coming home for love...a love for always! |
